The short answer

Yes, new moms in West Edmonton can skip the mascara wand with a Hybrid Set at Mari Esthetics: $90 for about 135 minutes, with a $25 deposit credited to the total. Fills are $60 every 2 to 3 weeks. If you're pregnant or nursing, check with your doctor or midwife first and tell Marinelle when you book.

Mascara is the first thing to go. Somewhere between the 3 a.m. feed and a stroller lap at West Edmonton Mall on a minus-30 morning, the wand stays in the drawer, and then someone takes a photo of you and the baby that you didn't ask for. At Mari Esthetics' private home studio in West Edmonton, a Hybrid Set is $90 for about 135 minutes (2 h 15 min), with a $25 deposit that's credited to your total. A Hybrid Fill is $60 for about 60 minutes, every 2 to 3 weeks. This one is for new moms who want to look awake before they feel it.

The first 40 days, and the week you're back out

Many families who now call Edmonton home have a name for the weeks right after a baby. In a lot of Latin American homes it's la cuarentena, roughly 40 days of rest while family cooks, cleans and holds the baby so the new mom can recover (BabyCenter has a clear explainer on the tradition). Many South Asian, Arab and Filipino families keep their own version of those first weeks of rest. And plenty of moms in Lewis Estates or The Hamptons are doing it far from their own mothers, with no abuela, lola, nani or teta down the hall.

Then, somewhere around week six to twelve, you're back out. There are mom & baby classes in Lessard and Windermere, the first family photos, and the Santa line at North Pole Place in West Edmonton Mall once Santa photos open for the season. Those are the days many new moms want to feel like themselves again, without adding one more step to the morning.

What "two coats of mascara, zero wand" actually means

Mari's menu describes the Hybrid Set as a mix of classic and volume lashes for a fuller yet textured look. That lands right where most mascara lovers live: defined, a little darker at the lash line, not a heavy party set. The Spanish lash academy Gaze Institute, in its 2026 lash trends, describes a "wet look" as lashes that seem freshly coated in mascara with no product at all, and places it between classic and volume. At Mari Esthetics that's a style you talk through inside your Hybrid Set consultation, not a separate service.

The easiest way to explain the look you want is a photo. Our post on bringing a screenshot to your hybrid lash appointment shows how that works, and Marinelle will tell you honestly what suits your natural lashes.

Why it's easier than mascara with a baby on your hip

  • Nothing to smudge on a baby's cheek. Eva Longoria told ¡HOLA! that after her son was born her makeup was usually just mascara and out the door, and that she skipped lipstick or wore a long-lasting one because she was always kissing him. Lashes take the mascara out of that picture too.
  • Nothing to take off at 11 p.m. When you finally reach the sink, there's no mascara to remove. Aftercare is a daily oil-free lash cleanse and a brush with a clean spoolie.
  • No wand hunt in the dark. Alberta's clocks don't fall back this November (see Alberta's new time system), so winter mornings stay dark longer. Our Alberta Time winter-sun facial post covers what that means for your skin.
  • No clumps in furnace air. And skip mascara on top of extensions; it isn't part of the aftercare.

Honest questions new moms ask

Can I get lashes while I'm nursing or pregnant?

Research on lash extensions during pregnancy and breastfeeding is limited. A Spanish dermatologist quoted in this Spanish-language article on lashes and breastfeeding says some lash treatments may be discouraged depending on the treatment. So check with your doctor or midwife before booking, and tell Marinelle when you book. The American Academy of Ophthalmology's Spanish guide to lash extension safety adds the basics for everyone: a trained professional, a clean setting, and questions about the adhesive if you have allergies.

My natural lashes look patchy since the baby.

Extensions attach one by one to healthy natural lashes, so they need something to hold on to. If your lashes look thinner or patchier than before, say so when you book. Marinelle looks at them first and tells you what makes sense.

I sleep however I can.

Mari's aftercare asks you to avoid sleeping face-down. If night feeds keep you on one side, that side may wear a little faster, and a quick brush with a clean spoolie fixes most morning flat spots. Our 7-day lash retention test helps you see what's shortening your set.

Little hands grab everything.

Try not to rub or pull, and never pick extensions off yourself. If your eyes itch, swell or turn red, contact Mari and see an eye doctor instead of removing them at home; the AAO guide says the same.

Can I really be gone for 2 h 15 min?

It's a long appointment, so plan for someone else to hold the baby. It's also one of the few times you'll lie down with your eyes closed and nobody needing anything. Our first hybrid appointment guide walks through the whole visit.

From Marinelle's chair

Every Hybrid Set with Marinelle Trevino is one-on-one in her private studio. She starts with a short consultation on length, curl and mapping, and that's the moment to mention the baby, the broken sleep, the side you sleep on, and whether your lashes have changed. Then comes a gentle lash-line cleanse, individual extensions on isolated natural lashes, comfort checks along the way, and an aftercare walkthrough before you leave, so you go home knowing exactly what to do with a baby on your hip. You can read more about Marinelle.

Thinking about more fullness? Our volume lashes in Edmonton page has the Volume Set (2D–5D) and Volume Fill with current prices and appointment times.

A first-season plan for parental leave (real prices)

Here's an example using Mari's live prices. Your real timing depends on how your lashes shed.

A fill works when you arrive with at least 40 to 50% of your extensions; under 40%, or more than three weeks since your last visit, may need a full set. Our guide to the 40% hybrid fill rule explains why. Tip: time it so a fill lands a few days before the mom & baby photos or the Santa line.
