Fine Lashes, Hybrid or Classic? Hybrid Lashes in West Edmonton ($90, 135 Minutes) Before the First Snow
Gaps or weight? Two lash experts give fine lashes opposite advice. A 30-second mirror check, the Hybrid Set ($90, about 135 minutes, $25 deposit) next to the Classic Set ($70), and how Marinelle Trevino decides in her private West Edmonton studio before the first snow.

The short answer
For fine or gappy natural lashes in West Edmonton, Marinelle Trevino at Mari Esthetics checks your lashes first, then recommends the Hybrid Set ($90, about 135 minutes, $25 deposit) to soften gaps or the Classic Set ($70, about 120 minutes) to keep weight low. Hybrid Fills are $60, every 2 to 3 weeks.
Fine, thin or gappy natural lashes? At Mari Esthetics, hybrid lashes in West Edmonton are the Hybrid Set: $90 for about 135 minutes, with a $25 deposit. The Classic Set is $70 for about 120 minutes, also with a $25 deposit. Hybrid Fills are $60 and Classic Fills are $45, recommended every 2 to 3 weeks. Which one suits fine lashes depends on what your lashes look like up close, and Marinelle Trevino checks that before she starts. Book your Hybrid Set here.
Gaps or weight? That's the whole argument.
Why the first snow is when this question comes up
Environment Canada's extended forecast for Edmonton, issued Tuesday, October 27, calls for periods of snow on Wednesday night, a high of minus 2 on Thursday, and nights down to minus 8 into the Halloween weekend (see the forecast). That's the week mascara starts to lose. Wind makes eyes water, a toque brim brushes your lashes, and by the time you're through the WEM parking lot the smudges have arrived.
That's often when women with fine natural lashes start thinking about extensions, and run into the same question online: hybrid or classic? Ask two lash experts and you can get two opposite answers. Both have a point.
Two experts, two worries: gaps versus weight
The weight side. Lash artist Edyta Kurowska, interviewed by Telva in Spain, prefers classic extensions, one extension on each natural lash, lengthened only a millimetre or two so the eye keeps its own shape. She warns that Russian volume and volume lashes add extra weight, and that "el folículo termina rindiéndose cuando se le sobrecarga" (the follicle ends up giving in when it's overloaded). Her worry is simple: fine lashes can only carry so much.
The gaps side. A Spanish-language guide from lash supplier Alice Eyelash says hybrids suit lashes with sparser sections or lashes that are naturally fine, because light fans can go where the line is thin and single extensions where it's already full. A classic set can only add one extension where a natural lash already exists, so it can't fill a true gap.
Put plainly, one side is protecting your natural lashes from too much load. The other is trying to make a patchy lash line look even. Both are real concerns, and the right answer depends on which problem your lashes actually have.
A 30-second mirror check before you book
Take your mascara off, stand by a window and look straight on, then from the side.
- Where are the gaps? Visible spaces, often at the outer corners, are the "gaps" problem.
- Are your lashes full but very fine or short? Plenty of lashes, each one delicate, is closer to the "weight" problem.
- Do lashes come out with your mascara? Mention it at your appointment.
- Any itching, redness, swelling or sudden lash loss? See an eye doctor or optometrist first. Extensions don't regrow lashes or treat anything.
Spanish-language lash school Gaze Institute sums up the first-timer's approach in one line: "No pidas un estilo: pide un diagnóstico." Don't order a style, ask for an assessment.

How Marinelle Trevino decides, one-on-one
Marinelle Trevino is the Mari behind Mari Esthetics, and every appointment is just you and her in a private home studio. With a fine-lash client, she looks at your natural lashes first: how many there are, how long and how strong they are, and where the gaps sit. She asks what your weeks look like, from shifts and the gym to toques, scarves, glasses and how often you can come back for a fill, and what look you're hoping for.
Then she recommends the Classic Set or the Hybrid Set from the menu and chooses the length, curl and weight to suit what your lashes can carry. If classic is the better start for your lashes, she'll tell you. Mexican beauty writer Mariana Guzmán put it well in KENA: listen to your lash artist, because "somos diferentes hasta en las pestañas" (we're different, even in our lashes). Keeping fine-lash extensions happy through an Edmonton November
When the wind makes your eyes water, dab under them instead of rubbing. Pull your toque brim up off your lash line, and keep scarves and neck warmers below your eyes. Furnace-dry air and a hot car vent aimed at your face don't help either. For the full aftercare routine, read our guide to why lash extensions fall out and the 7-day test.
Timing it around November
Book a set this week and the 2-to-3-week fill window lands in mid-November, right around All Is Bright on 124 Street (November 13 and 14). Halloween is Saturday, October 31, if you want them sooner. Pick your time on the booking page. The studio is a private home studio in West Edmonton, close to Callingwood, Lewis Estates, The Hamptons and Glastonbury; the address is shared at booking. See the West Edmonton location page.

Quick answers
Are hybrid lashes bad for thin lashes? Not automatically, but weight matters. Marinelle looks at your lashes first, keeps the set light enough for them, and recommends classic when that's the better fit.
Hybrid or classic for my first set? If your lashes have visible gaps, a Hybrid Set often looks fuller. If they're full but very fine, a Classic Set keeps it to one extension per lash. Marinelle helps you decide at the appointment.
How much are hybrid lashes in West Edmonton? At Mari Esthetics the Hybrid Set is $90 with a $25 deposit. Hybrid Fills are $60.
How long does a Hybrid Set take? About 135 minutes. A Classic Set takes about 120 minutes.
How often do I need a fill? Every 2 to 3 weeks, with at least 40 to 50% of your extensions left. After 3 weeks for hybrids, or 4 weeks for classics, a full set may be needed.
Where is the studio? It's a private home studio in West Edmonton. The address is shared at booking.
