Fluffy Again Before the Dark Room: Volume Fill for SCREAM and Día de los Muertos YEG
Volume set thinning at the corners since Thanksgiving? Book a 90-minute Volume Fill in West Edmonton before SCREAM at the EXPO Centre and Día de los Muertos YEG on October 30.

Mid-October, a West Edmonton bathroom mirror, the furnace already humming. Your Volume set looked soft and fluffy in the Thanksgiving photos. Now the outer fans look a little see-through. It isn't a disaster, and it isn't bald. It's just not ready for a dark room with a light show.
SCREAM takes over the Edmonton EXPO Centre on October 30 and 31. That same Friday, Día de los Muertos YEG: Between Worlds fills Festival Place in Sherwood Park with mariachi and folklórico. Both are about two and a half weeks out, which lines up almost exactly with your next fill window.
Get fluffy again before the dark room. That means a Volume Fill on the calendar now, not drugstore clusters glued over the gaps at 6 p.m. on the night.
Why volume still matters in dramatic-eye season
Every October, Spanish-language beauty media turns to the eyes. Writing about Catrina-inspired glam, Trendy Urbano passed along advice from SEYTÚ's makeup team: the eyes are where the character comes alive, and adding volume to the lashes helps a deep liner and shadow design actually read. Glamour México's step-by-step Catrina guide treats false lashes as an optional finishing touch around the eye.
Our Edmonton take is simple. If you already wear Volume extensions, you don't need strip lashes for Halloween weekend. You need your own set to be full. For many Latina Edmontonians, Día de los Muertos is living family tradition, not a costume, and the eyes you bring to an ofrenda evening deserve the same care as the ones you bring to a Tiësto set.
New to Volume? Start with our toque-and-scarf Volume guide or the Volume after 40 post. This one is about keeping the set you already have looking its best.
What "fluffy" means on a Mari Volume set
The Spanish lash guide at Gollee explains volume clearly: instead of one extension per natural lash, the artist places a small fan of very fine fibres, so you get density without heaviness. At Mari Esthetics, Volume sets use lightweight multi-dimensional fans, from soft everyday fullness up to a more glamorous finish.
For comparison, Classic is one extension per lash and Hybrid mixes the two. Volume gets its softness from those fans, and when fans shed and grow out, the gaps are easier to spot under strong lighting.
The 2–3 week clock into Halloween weekend
Mari's live policy for the Volume Fill is the timeline that counts here. A fill is recommended every 2–3 weeks, and you should arrive with at least 40–50% of your extensions still on. If fewer than 40% remain, or it has been more than four weeks since your last appointment, a full Volume Set may be needed instead.
Winter makes this harder. In its winter care advice, London Lash España points out that dry indoor heat, richer moisturizers and party-season makeup can all leave volume fans clumpy and messy, and a fill takes longer when the artist has to clean through the buildup first. Swap Spain's radiators for Edmonton's forced-air furnace and the point still holds.
In plain terms: if your last set or fill was around Thanksgiving, book in the next week or two. Aim to be done five to ten days before October 30 so you're not fighting for the last Saturday slot. If you wear Classic, our Classic Fill before Halloween post covers the same timing for your set.
What the 90-minute Volume Fill includes
The Volume Fill is maintenance for the set you already love:
- Removal of outgrown extensions
- A lash bath to clear oil and makeup
- New lightweight volume fans to restore that full, fluffy look
It's 90 minutes, $55 CAD, with a $25 deposit that goes toward your total. You're one-on-one with Marinelle in our private West Edmonton home studio near Glastonbury and The Hamptons, with no salon floor and no waiting-room chatter.
If you're under 40% or past four weeks, don't force a fill. Book a full Volume Set (150 minutes, $100, $25 deposit) and start fresh.
Edmonton's late-October glam calendar
- Oct 20 and 22: Oilers home games against Minnesota and Carolina at Rogers Place. Think of them as the warm-up.
- Oct 30 (Fri): Día de los Muertos YEG: Between Worlds at Festival Place, Sherwood Park, presented by Mariachi Loco
- Oct 30–31: SCREAM at the Edmonton EXPO Centre, 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. both nights, with four stages and a lineup that includes Tiësto and Alesso
- Oct 31 (Sat): Halloween house parties all over the west end
Some women will do the Sherwood Park ofrenda night and the EXPO halls in the same weekend, with the same eyes in two very different rooms. From Callingwood, Lewis Estates, Granville or Windermere, you're home from your fill with plenty of time to spare. The same goes for clients who come in on the Henday from St. Albert, Spruce Grove or Stony Plain for a quiet studio. Ninety minutes, then the toque, the Henday and the EXPO.
Three habits that keep the fill fluffy under neon
- Cleanse your lashes every day with an oil-free cleanser and brush them with a spoolie. Both London Lash and Gollee are firm that oils and leftover makeup are what turn fans gummy.
- Keep heavy creams and balms off the lash line. Slugging season is for your cheeks, not your extensions.
- Skip mascara, the curler and DIY strip lashes on top of extensions. Glue over a half-shed set makes the next fill harder, not easier.
Heavy liner, glitter and Catrina detail all look better over a full set than over one that's half gone.
