Half a Set Is Not a Look, Edmonton: Book Your Classic Lash Fill Before Halloween Weekend
Got lashes for Thanksgiving's first snow? Your 2–3 week fill window lands right on Halloween weekend. Here's the 40–50% rule and how to time a Classic Fill in West Edmonton.
Marinelle Tala·

It's the Monday after Thanksgiving in a West Edmonton bathroom. The turkey photos look great. The Classic set you booked before the first snow looked perfect at the table. And now, leaning into the mirror with your coffee, you can see it: the outer corners are getting sparse, a couple of grown-out lashes are sticking out sideways, and the left eye looks fuller than the right.
Nothing went wrong. That's your natural lashes doing what they always do. But let's be honest with each other: half a set is not a look. You got the set for first snow. Don't ghost the fill before Halloween.
Here's how to time your first Classic Fill in Edmonton so your lashes are full again before DARK, SCREAM and those late-October Oilers nights.
Why your set looks thinner two weeks later (and why that's normal)
Every natural lash has its own life cycle. It grows, it rests, and then it falls out, and when it goes, the extension attached to it goes too. In a ¡HOLA! Novias interview, Spanish lash expert Almudena Bereciartua Martínez of Pestañas Premium explains it this way: the natural cycle runs over roughly six to eight weeks, and when a lash reaches its shedding phase it takes the extension with it. That's exactly why retouches exist.
Lash artists Bárbara Torres and Erica da Silva told Vogue México that some shedding starts as soon as the day after your appointment, and that how fast it happens depends on your lash type, the curl and thickness chosen, and how you care for them. Even sleeping on one side can make one eye shed more than the other. So if your right eye looks a little thinner after a long weekend of sleeping on the couch, it's not a bad set. It's just a Tuesday.
What a Classic Fill does is simple: Marinelle removes the grown-out extensions, cleanses your lashes, and applies fresh classic extensions to the natural lashes that need them, so you get back to that natural, polished, mascara-like look.
The 40–50% rule, in plain Edmonton English
This is the part most people don't know until they're standing at the front desk. At Mari Esthetics, a Classic Fill is recommended every 2 to 3 weeks, and you should arrive with at least 40–50% of your extensions still on. If fewer than 40% are left, or it's been more than four weeks since your last appointment, a full Classic Set may be needed instead.
Spanish lash educator Gaze Institute makes the same point in its guide to lash care: wait until less than half your set is left, and rebuilding it takes nearly as long as starting over, so your artist will likely suggest a new set. In other words, the fill is the cheaper, faster appointment, but only if you book it on time.
A quick mirror check before you book:
- Look at the outer corners. That's usually where the gaps show first, especially in selfies.
- Look for twisty or sideways lashes. Those are grown-out extensions that are ready to come off.
- Count back to your set date. Two to three weeks is the sweet spot. Past four weeks, plan on a full set.
Count back from Halloween weekend
Edmonton got its first snow on Thanksgiving Saturday, October 10, and plenty of us booked lashes for that long weekend. Count forward two to three weeks and you land right in the last stretch of October, which happens to be the busiest social calendar of the fall.
- DARK at Fort Edmonton Park runs through October 31, and costumes, costume masks, graphic makeup and face paint are not permitted. Your clean, natural lash look is the whole glam that night, and it has to hold up in the cold river valley.
- SCREAM at the Edmonton EXPO Centre is Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Two late nights of dancing and photos, same set.
- Oilers nights at Rogers Place keep coming through late October, including the Indigenous Celebration game on October 22.
If your set went on around Thanksgiving, a fill in the week of October 19 or October 26 lines up nicely. Book now so you're not hunting for a spot on Halloween week itself.
Had a Hybrid or Volume set instead? Book the matching appointment: Hybrid Fill or Volume Fill. Same 2–3 week idea, just with the lashes that match your set.
What the Classic Fill appointment actually is
A Classic Fill at our private West Edmonton studio is 90 minutes and $45, with a $25 deposit to hold your time that goes toward your total. Here's how to make those 90 minutes count:
- Arrive clean and makeup-free. That way the time goes into lashes, not removing last night's liner.
- Keep washing your lashes between fills. Clean lashes hold better, so avoiding water to make them last tends to backfire.
- Skip the at-home fixes. Please don't glue on clusters or pull off the stragglers yourself. Twisty lashes come off safely in the chair.
- Book your next fill before you leave. It's the easiest way to stay inside that 40–50% window all winter.
For toque season and wet flakes, our first-snow lash survival guide covers everyday care. When you're ready to plan fills through the Christmas Market and New Year's, we mapped that out in our dry-winter lash fill guide.
Never had a set yet?
A fill only works if there's a set to fill. If you're starting fresh, book a Classic Set: one extension on each natural lash for a natural, mascara-like look. Our post on mascara-free winter mornings explains why it suits so many Edmonton women. And if you wear glasses every day, read our classic lashes guide for glasses wearers first.
FAQ
How often should I get a classic lash fill?
Every 2 to 3 weeks is recommended. Arrive with at least 40–50% of your extensions left so it can be done as a fill.
What happens if I wait too long?
If fewer than 40% of your extensions remain, or it's been more than four weeks since your last Classic appointment, you may need a full Classic Set instead of a fill.
Is it normal that one eye looks thinner than the other?
Yes. Lashes shed on their own schedule, and things like the side you sleep on can make one eye lose more. Mention it when you book and Marinelle will even things out.
