The short answer

Choose by what your skin is doing this week. At Mari Esthetics in West Edmonton: Basic Facial $60, 50 minutes, for mild tightness; Deep Cleansing $80, 90 minutes, for shine and blackheads; Hydra $100, 150 minutes, for dull, rough skin; Anti-aging $100, 75 minutes, for a tired look. Deposits are $25–$30.

The furnace has been running since early October, the windshield wants a scrape most mornings, and by mid-morning your foundation is clinging to a dry patch beside your nose. That’s usually when the question shows up: which facial should I book? Facts first. Mari Esthetics, a private home studio in West Edmonton, has four facials: Basic Facial $60 (50 minutes, $25 deposit), Deep Cleansing Facial $80 (90 minutes, $30 deposit), Anti-aging Facial $100 (75 minutes, $25 deposit) and Hydra Facial $100 (a 150-minute appointment, $25 deposit). You don’t need facial vocabulary to choose. You need one answer: what is your skin doing this week?

The quick chooser

Pick the line that sounds like your mirror this morning. Prices, times and deposits come straight from the studio’s live menu.

FacialPriceTimeDepositBook it when your skin is…Book
Basic Facial$6050 min$25A little tight or dull, and you’re short on time or new to facialsBook
Deep Cleansing Facial$8090 min$30Shiny in the T-zone, congested, blackheads on the noseBook
Hydra Facial$100150 min$25Dull and rough, makeup sitting on top, pores looking cloggedBook
Anti-aging Facial$10075 min$25Tired-looking, fine lines more visible, face holding tensionBook

Still torn between two? That’s fine. Every facial at the studio starts with a skin check-in about the products you use and what’s bothering you, so the steps get adjusted to the skin that actually walks in.

Read the steps, not the name

Facial menus are confusing because the names are marketing and the steps are the real thing. A Mexico City clinic, Juvenalia Brío, puts it plainly in its guide to choosing a facial: the same name can hide very different protocols, so before you pick a name off a menu, ask what you actually want to change. Tightness? Congestion? Fine lines? That’s the whole method of this post.

It also explains why your “skin type” isn’t enough. The furnace doesn’t care what your skin was doing in July. If you called yourself oily all summer, don’t be surprised to find flakes around your nose by Halloween, and a Chinook can make Tuesday feel fine and Wednesday feel like paper. Choose for this week’s skin, and choose again in January.

Tight and flaky since the furnace came on

If it’s mild, a bit of tightness after you wash, a few dry flakes, start with the Basic Facial: $60, 50 minutes, $25 deposit. The live menu lists cleansing, gentle exfoliation, a customized mask, moisturizer and SPF. It’s a maintenance facial, and that’s exactly what mild furnace dryness needs.

If the tightness comes with dullness and a rough, bumpy texture that your moisturizer just slides over, look at the Hydra Facial instead (more on it below). Dry on the surface and clogged underneath is a common Edmonton winter combination, and it’s the one the Hydra’s cleanse, exfoliate, extract and hydrate sequence is built for.

Shiny T-zone, tight cheeks, blackheads on your nose

That’s the Deep Cleansing Facial: $80, a 90-minute booking (the menu describes the treatment itself as about 60–90 minutes), $30 deposit. The live menu lists a skin analysis, double cleanse, exfoliation, steam if appropriate, gentle extractions, high-frequency or ultrasonic treatment if needed, a customized mask, toner, serum, moisturizer and SPF, and recommends it every 4–6 weeks. Our Deep Cleansing Facial guide walks through each step, and if you’ve heard that steam “opens and closes” pores, read why pores don’t actually close after steam first.

Had a rough extraction facial somewhere else? You’re not alone. A Vogue México writer with sensitive skin described several bad experiences with traditional extraction cleanses before trying a Hydrafacial that barely irritated her. Your skin may react differently, so tell Marinelle what happened last time; extractions are only done where needed. If you’re shiny by noon and tight by supper, this post on oily-but-thirsty furnace skin compares both options in more detail.

Makeup sits on top and you look grey under office lights

Dull, uneven texture, foundation that looks powdery by lunch: that’s Hydra Facial territory. It’s $100, booked as a 150-minute appointment, with a $25 deposit. The live menu describes a multi-step treatment that deeply cleanses, exfoliates, extracts impurities and infuses hydrating, nourishing serums, aimed at texture, clogged pores, congestion and dullness, with no downtime, and suitable for all skin types. That no-downtime part matters if you’re heading straight back to a shift or a school pickup. Details are in our Hydra Facial guide.

You look tired, lines look deeper, your face is holding tension

Book the Anti-aging Facial: $100, 75 minutes, $25 deposit. On the menu it’s gentle exfoliation, targeted anti-aging serums, a facial massage and a nourishing mask, designed to hydrate and soften the look of fine lines. Think of it as hydration plus hands-on massage, not a promise to turn back a clock. It isn’t only for women over 50, either; it’s for anyone whose face looks more tired than they feel. Our Anti-aging Facial guide has the full picture, and if you’ve been carrying your shoulders up around your ears since the first cold snap, the Edmonton shrug post is for you. It’s skin care, not jaw therapy.

Short on time, on a budget, or never had a facial

Students between midterms, nurses between night shifts, moms with exactly one free hour: the Basic Facial at $60 and 50 minutes is the easy first step. Parka on, makeup off, 50 minutes that are only yours. If it’s your first visit, check the booking page for any current offer. Once you know how your skin responds, our winter facial calendar helps you decide how often to come back.

Big night coming? Book by the calendar, not the morning of

Celebrity facialists don’t wait for the last minute. María Casado, whose clients include Aitana, Elsa Pataky and Sebastián Yatra, told The Objective that red-carpet prep starts days, even weeks, ahead, and her tip is to skip strong exfoliants for the two days before a big event. A Spanish salon, Belleza y Bienestar Zaida Navarro, gives a handy rule of thumb: 3 to 10 days before an event is usually the safest window, gentle hydrating facials can sit 3 to 5 days out, and anything with extractions or deep cleansing is better 7 to 10 days before.

Here’s what that looks like on an Edmonton calendar. Say you’re shopping the Hello Pretty Christmas Market at the Enjoy Centre in St. Albert (November 20–22) or have a holiday party that weekend. The Deep Cleansing and Hydra Facials both include extractions on our menu, so aim for roughly November 10–13. The Basic or Anti-aging Facial fits closer, around November 15–17. That’s one salon’s general guideline, not a studio rule, and Marinelle will tell you what suits your skin. Open times are on the booking page.

When a facial isn’t the answer

A facial supports your routine; it doesn’t diagnose anything. As Juvenalia Brío’s guide points out, it doesn’t replace medical treatment for acne, rosacea or melasma. If you have painful, deep breakouts, redness that won’t settle, new dark patches, or a spot that bleeds or changes, see a doctor or dermatologist first. When you book, tell Marinelle if you use retinol or acids, are pregnant, or have a skin condition, so the facial can be adjusted or moved.

Facials in West Edmonton, one client at a time

The studio is a private home studio in West Edmonton, close to the Henday, so it’s a short drive from Callingwood, Lewis Estates, The Hamptons, Glastonbury and Granville, and easy from St. Albert, Spruce Grove or Stony Plain. One client per appointment, nobody in the next chair. The address is shared when you book, and there’s more about the area on our West Edmonton page. For the full menu and what to expect, see facials in West Edmonton. Whichever facial you choose, the aftercare is the same Edmonton basics: SPF outdoors (snow glare is still sun), no harsh scrubs or new actives for a few days, and moisturizer morning and night in dry indoor heat.

Quick answers

Which facial is best for dry winter skin in Edmonton? For mild tightness, the Basic Facial ($60, 50 minutes). If dryness comes with dullness and clogged, rough texture, the Hydra Facial ($100, 150 minutes) is the better match.

Hydra Facial or Deep Cleansing Facial: what’s the difference? Deep Cleansing ($80, 90 minutes, $30 deposit) is built around a double cleanse, steam if appropriate and gentle extractions for oily, congested skin. The Hydra ($100, 150 minutes, $25 deposit) cleanses, exfoliates, extracts and infuses hydrating serums for dull, rough skin.

How long before an event should I get a facial? One salon’s rule of thumb is 3–10 days: 7–10 days for facials with extractions, 3–5 days for gentle hydrating ones. Marinelle can tell you what fits your skin.

How much is a facial in West Edmonton? At Mari Esthetics, facials are $60 to $100: Basic $60, Deep Cleansing $80, Anti-aging $100 and Hydra $100, with a $25–$30 deposit.

Can I get a facial if I use retinol? Tell Marinelle when you book so the steps can be adjusted, and avoid new actives or harsh scrubs for a few days afterward.
