Colour, Not Volume: Lip Blush for Edmonton Women Who Are Done Topping Up Their Filler

Lip filler adds size; lip blush adds colour and definition. A no-judgment West Edmonton guide to choosing between them, why lip blush makes lips look fuller, and how to space it if you've had filler.

Thanksgiving weekend in Edmonton. The leftovers fill every container you own, and the family photos are rolling into the group chat. You zoom in on one and notice your lips look pale and a little blurry at the edges. Then your phone buzzes again: a reminder that your filler top-up is due.

A lot of women are pausing on that reminder this year and asking a quieter question. Do I actually want more lip, or do I just want the lips I have to look clearer? This guide covers what lip blush and lip filler each do, who each suits, and how to plan if you've had filler. No judgment either way.

Filler adds size. Lip blush adds colour and definition.

A Spanish permanent makeup studio, Carla Tomás in Zaragoza, puts the difference in the simplest terms we've seen: one treatment works on volume, the other works on colour and outline, and they aren't really competing with each other.

  • Lip filler is an injectable gel placed inside the lip to add volume. In Alberta, injecting it is a restricted activity that only authorized regulated health professionals can perform. Mari Esthetics doesn't offer injectables.
  • Lip blush is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo. Custom pigment, matched to your skin tone and the result you want, softly tints your lips and can improve their shape and symmetry. Nothing is added inside the lip.

The timelines are different too. A Spanish medical aesthetics clinic, Centro Médico Estético AYC, gives general ranges of roughly 6 to 18 months for hyaluronic acid filler and about one to three years for lip micropigmentation. At our studio, Lip Blush results typically last two to three years with proper aftercare and periodic touch-ups.

Why lip blush can make your lips look fuller without changing their size

When the border of your lips is crisp and the colour is even and warm, your lips read as fuller in photos and from across a room. The size hasn't changed; your eye just sees where your lips begin and end.

Lip blush tends to suit you if your lips look pale or washed out, the edges have softened, the colour is patchy, or one side looks a little different from the other. If you want real projection in profile, that's a conversation with a regulated injector, and that's fine.

Not sure what style you'd like? Our guide to lip blush styles covers soft tints, lip-combo looks and more. If your lips are naturally dark or cool-toned, read about lip neutralization first.

If you're rethinking your filler

You've probably seen the videos. Across Spain and Latin America, well-known women have been talking openly about dissolving years of lip filler. Canarian TV personality Aurah Ruiz told El Desmarque she no longer felt like herself, and described her lips afterward as not perfect, but real. In Chile, influencer Camilísima told La Cuarta it took five sessions to remove hers. And Gal·la Mora said she'd take a few weeks to decide whether to go back to filler at all.

The takeaway isn't that filler is bad. Some women go back to a little, some never do. What matters is choosing on purpose, for the face you want to see.

  • Dissolving filler is a medical procedure. Talk to a physician or authorized injector about it. We can't advise on that part.
  • Leave space between treatments. Spanish clinics don't agree on which should come first. AYC prefers filler first, then four to eight weeks before pigment, while MicroEstética prefers pigment first and says to wait at least a month if filler came first. Both agree that time between them matters.
  • Tell Marinelle everything. Any filler or dissolving you've had, with approximate dates. She and your injector can set the timing that's right for you.

What Edmonton life asks of your lips

Your lips go a lot of places in a week here. A 12-hour shift at the Misericordia or the Royal Alex. A Callingwood school pickup with a coffee in one hand. A downtown meeting straight from the parkade. An Oilers night at Rogers Place. With lip blush there's nothing to reapply between any of them, and no top-up appointment to squeeze in around rotations, kids' hockey or exam season.

Between the toque and the scarf, a clear lip line still shows. For winter lip care and healing, see our first lip blush guide.

Planning your timing this fall

  • Healing takes weeks, not days. Leave plenty of room before any event; a fresh lip blush won't be photo-ready for this month's nights out.
  • Recent filler or dissolving? Add at least a month, per the Spanish clinics above, before lip blush, then healing time on top. A filler decision made in mid-October usually points to late November or later.
  • Thinking about 2027 photos? If you're heading to The Wedding Fair at the Edmonton Convention Centre on October 18 as a bride or guest, it's a good moment to decide whether you want more lip or a clearer one, and plan backward from there.

Lip blush vs lip filler: quick FAQ

Can I get lip blush if I have lip filler?
Many clinics do both with time in between. Tell Marinelle about your filler and when you had it.

How long should I wait between filler and lip blush?
Spanish clinics suggest at least a month, and some say four to eight weeks. Follow the advice of both your injector and Marinelle.

Does lip blush make my lips bigger?
No. It adds colour and definition, which can make your lips look fuller without changing their size.

Which lasts longer?
As general ranges, filler lasts roughly 6 to 18 months. Our Lip Blush typically lasts two to three years with aftercare and touch-ups.

Should I dissolve my filler before lip blush?
That's a medical decision for your physician or injector. Either way, let Marinelle know.

Does Mari Esthetics do filler?
No. We offer lip blush and lip neutralization, not injectables.

Same lips, clearer edges

You don't need a dramatic change to love your lips again. Sometimes all they need is their colour and their edges back, in a tint that lasts through a few Edmonton winters. Book your Lip Blush appointment in West Edmonton and let's talk about the look you want.
