-30 at YEG, +30 in Cancún, Same Brows: Soft Powder Brows for Edmonton Women Counting Down to a Winter Sun Escape

Flying south this winter or home for the holidays? Count back from your gate so your Soft Powder Brows are healed before you land, then keep them happy in the sun, salt and pool. A three-window planner for Edmonton women.

Marinelle Tala·

It's a January morning at YEG. Your parka is folded over one arm, your sandals are in the carry-on, and somewhere in your makeup bag is the brow pencil you'll be redrawing after every swim for the next seven days. Or maybe you're flying home to Manila, Guadalajara or Amritsar for Christmas, and you want to look like yourself in every single family photo.

Either way, the question is the same: when should you get powder brows in Edmonton so they're healed before you fly? Here's how to count back from your gate, and how to look after your brows once you land.

The 2026 brow is barely there. That's easier said than done.

Vogue México's fall-winter 2026 forecast says the brow trend is, more or less, to stop making them up at all. Harper's Bazaar México put it even more simply in September: the new sophistication is no hacer tanto, not doing so much.

Easy if you were born with full brows and never met tweezers. Many of us did meet them. Spanish actress Paula Echevarría has admitted she plucked her brows paper-thin in the '90s and, in her words, they never grew back the same. If your old school photos from Jasper Place or St. Albert prove you were part of that era too, you're in good company.

Spanish permanent makeup specialist Mónica Aránguez told the EFE news agency that the most requested technique right now is a soft powdered shading so subtle nobody can tell the brows are made up. Her philosophy is to improve without over-transforming. That's the idea behind Soft Powder Brows at Mari Esthetics: a semi-permanent treatment for soft, natural-looking, fuller brows with a gentle powder effect. Results typically last 1 to 3 years, depending on your skin type and lifestyle. "Skip the brow step" finally means something when there's a brow there to skip it with.

Why a beach week is hard on drawn-on brows

Edmonton in January is furnace-dry indoors and minus-something outdoors. A few hours south, it's 30 degrees and humid. Add sunscreen, a hotel pool, salt water and a sweaty walk back from the beach, and pencil, pomade and brow gel have a tough week.

Healed powder brows take that job off your list. Leave the pencil at home: one less thing in the carry-on.

At our West Edmonton studio, Soft Powder Brows take about 2.5 hours and cost $250, with a $75 deposit to hold your spot. See open dates for Soft Powder Brows.

Count back from your gate: three Edmonton departure windows

Here's the general rule of thumb in permanent makeup: a first session, about 4 to 6 weeks of healing, a touch-up (typically around 6 to 8 weeks after the first visit), then a little time to settle. That adds up to roughly 8 to 10 weeks from first appointment to beach. Your artist will confirm the timing for your skin. For the week-by-week healing details, read our fall powder brows guide.

  • Christmas and holiday flights. Flair's non-stop Edmonton to Cancún service is scheduled to return December 16 (schedules can change), EPSB winter break runs December 21 to 31, and plenty of families fly home for the holidays. If you leave around mid-December, book your first session this month.
  • Family Day and reading week. Family Day is February 15, 2027, university reading week falls in mid-February, and Teachers' Convention on February 25 and 26 gives families another long weekend. Aim for a first session in early to mid December.
  • Spring break. EPSB spring break is March 30 to April 2, 2027. Book your first session in mid to late January.

Flight less than about four weeks away? Book your first session for after you're home. Fresh brows plus sun, salt, chlorine and sweat is not a good mix.

Whether your boarding pass says Puerto Vallarta, Maui, Los Cabos or Manila, pick your departure window and book your first session. Check the booking page for any current offer.

Once you land: keeping healed powder brows happy in the sun

These tips are for brows your artist has confirmed are fully healed. Always follow the aftercare you're given.

  • Put sunscreen on your brows and reapply after swimming. Sun is the main thing that fades pigment.
  • Rinse off salt water and pool chlorine with fresh water when you get out.
  • Wear a hat for long beach or pool days.
  • Keep retinol and exfoliating acids (AHA, BHA) away from the brow area, since they can fade pigment faster.

Swim-up bar proof, once healed. Your brows shouldn't slide off before the welcome drink does.

Is it for me? A quick gut check

Soft Powder Brows are a good fit if your brows are sparse or over-plucked, have gaps or uneven sides, or if you just want a no-makeup morning: shift workers, busy moms, and anyone who sweats through hot yoga or a cold night at the rink.

Talk to your artist, and your doctor, first if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, have a skin condition, take medication that affects healing, or have a history of keloids. In Alberta, permanent makeup is a regulated personal service, so it's fair to ask to see sterile, single-use needles opened in front of you and to get written aftercare.
